Michael Howard Johnson

Michael (Mike) Howard Johnson is a member of the firm and has more than 20 years experience defending lawsuits for individuals and businesses.

An experienced litigator, Mr. Johnson has tried well over 100 liability cases to successful conclusion for clients around the state. He represents retailers, franchisees and restaurants in security issue litigation, as well as traditional premises injury cases. He is the author of "A Quick Guide to Tennessee Premise Litigation" and welcomes discussion and questions on the topic.
Mr. Johnson has extensive experience representing national insurers and similar entities in “Bad Faith” litigation and is a frequent speaker on the subject. His experience includes coverage analysis and representation involving commercial and personal lines; primary, umbrella and excess coverage; and first and third party coverage. He has dealt with a wide variety of insurance coverage and litigation issues, including personal injury, construction defect, automobile, underinsured motorist, personal injury protection, homeowner's, property, products-completed operations, and Errors and Omissions. Additionally, Mr. Johnson offers “in house” seminars for risk management and insurers.

Commercial Disputes
Mr. Johnson represents clients in a wide range of contract disputes spanning a number of business contexts, including manufacturing, the service sector, professional service providers and casualty, liability, property and health insurers. His experience includes disputes involving business tort allegations that go beyond a simple breach of contract litigation, from claims seeking recovery of extra contractual damages to claims being used to avoid contract remedy limitations.

Professional Associations and Speaking Engagements
Mr. Johnson is a member of the Tennessee and American Bar Associations, as well as the Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association and has presented a number of Continuing Legal Education programs on various aspects of litigation as well as attorney ethics.

Education and Background
Mr. Johnson received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Tennessee in 1984. After a short stint as a teacher and coach, he received his J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.
